President Donald Trump was up late into the night, posting on Truth Social at nearly 2 a.m. on Tuesday to blast Democrats on immigration and funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The message was posted on Day 38 of a partial government shutdown that has hit the Department of Homeland Security hardest, leading to staffing shortages and long lines at airports nationwide as TSA agents are not receiving their paychecks.
Hundreds of TSA officers have reportedly quit or gone on extended leave due to the uncertainty.
In a post at 1:48 a.m., Trump wrote:
“Democrats are desperate to keep illegals, no matter how bad or dangerous they may be, in the Country. They want them to VOTE! That’s why they are fighting so hard to neutralize ICE. We will fight them all the way, and WIN!”
Trump has rejected a compromise proposal that would have funded DHS operations but deferred ICE funding, the core sticking point in the standoff.
Instead, the president has insisted that Republicans remain in Washington during Easter break and fight for full border security funding and passage of the SAVE America Act, a bill focused on election integrity measures such as voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements.
As part of the pressure campaign, Trump has sent ICE agents to assist TSA officers at major U.S. airports to help keep travel moving safely during the shutdown.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, on Monday, Trump announced that he also plans to send National Guard troops to assist with airport security.
Trump ripped the Democrats as “the most destructive, sick people” for refusing to fund the Department of Homeland Security, revealing that he’ll “bring in the National Guard” if ICE agents aren’t enough as he departed from West Palm Beach, Florida, on Monday morning.
“You walk into a booth in California, if a person who’s doing voting, an official, asks you for identification, they’re subject to being arrested. What’s wrong with this country? So, we’re fighting it hard, and I think they should because the Democrats are being blamed for the shutdown, and it’s their fault, and they’re getting killed,” Trump told reporters.
The president continued, “That’s why when I announced yesterday about ICE, the Democrats called, “We want to settle. We want to settle.” And I told the people, don’t settle. Don’t settle because we have something bigger. Only settle if you get the SAVE AMERICA Act, voter ID, and so important proof of citizenship, etc. Thank you very much.”
