The Senate on Sunday voted to advance Markwayne Mullin’s DHS nomination.
Mullin’s nomination for DHS Secretary cleared the Senate Homeland Security Committee last week in an 8-7 vote.
Fetterman voted with the Republicans and GOP Senator Rand Paul opposed Mullin.
President Trump earlier this month fired Kristi Noem as DHS Chief and immediately announced that Senator Markwayne Mullin (OK) will become the next Secretary of Homeland Security effective March 31.
Markwayne Mullin will have to be confirmed by the Senate and on Sunday he passed a key hurdle.
The Senate on Sunday voted 54-37 to advance Mullin’s nomination.
Fetterman joined the Republicans and voted to advance Mullin.
Fox News reported:
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., survived a key test vote on Sunday on his way to becoming the next Homeland Security chief.
Mullin, who was tapped by President Donald Trump to be the next Department of Homeland Security secretary, still has one more vote to go, and likely won’t be confirmed until Monday evening.
Should he survive the final confirmation vote on Monday, he will replace DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who Trump fired following explosive hearings on the Hill and after the deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti during immigration operations in Minnesota.
Sunday’s test vote, which was largely party-line save for Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who was the key vote to move his colleague out of committee earlier in the week, comes after his explosive confirmation hearing earlier in the week.

I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the Senate and carrying out President Trump’s mission alongside the department’s many capable agencies and the thousands of patriots who keep us safe every day,” Mullin said earlier this month.
“President Trump ran on restoring law and order, and he quickly delivered the most secure U.S. border in American history. I look forward to supporting @POTUS’ mission to safeguard the American people and defend the homeland,” he said.
As a kid from Westville, it has been the greatest honor and privilege to serve the people of Oklahoma for the past thirteen years in both the House and Senate.
