President Donald Trump spoke from the White House to the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team Sunday after their thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Canada to won the gold medal in Milan, Italy.
Wild smartphone video shows the raucous team in the locker room being addressed by Trump over a phone held by FBI Director Kash Patel.

Everyone, including Patel, was very loose and celebratory. One player, star goalie Connor Hellebuyck, called out, “How ya doing, Don?”, while Patel was seen opening a beverage can with one hand while holding with his other hand the phone Trump was speaking on.
While he repeatedly praised the whole team, Trump singled out Hellebuyck several times for praise, saying he wants to shake his hand.
In the midst of congratulating the team, Trump asked them if they want to come to the State of the Union address on Tuesday, saying he can arrange a “military plane or something” to get the team to D.C. The team enthusiastically accepted and asked if they can be picked up in Miami Tuesday morning.
Patel told Trump, “I got it, Boss, I got it… I’m f***ing on it” and he is “driving the bus” to get them to D.C.
Trump told the men that he will also be inviting the gold medal winning U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team, adding he would probably be impeached if he didn’t. The U.S. women’s team beat the Canadian women’s team on Thursday, also in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory.
Trump also said he would hold a White House reception on Wednesday for the teams where he would present them medals.

Senior White House official Dan Scavino, Jr. posted an official photo of Trump congratulating the team, “From the @WhiteHouse, President @realDonaldTrump congratulates the @USAHockey Men’s Hockey team following their historic win against Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics Men’s Gold Medal Game, Sunday, February 22, 2026…”

Even on short notice, there should be plenty of room for the men’s and women’s teams in the House chamber Tuesday night as many Democrat Senators and Congressmen have announced they are boycotting Trump’s State of the Union address.
The New York Post reported logistics may hamper the visit to D.C. (excerpt):
“We’re all proud Americans, obviously,” captain Auston Matthews said. “This is a huge moment for us. A huge moment for the United States. He called, just congratulated us.”
Matthews seemed to indicate that a White House visit was possible, though Team USA’s fluctuating travel plans due to the blizzard on the East Coast and the NHL resuming play Thursday may make that a heavy logistical lift.
“I think there’s a lot of moving parts as far as our travels back home. We’ll see what happens,” Matthews said. “It’s an honor to wear this jersey and to represent the U.S. To go home with a gold medal. You know how much that means to guys in this room, to people watching and rooting us on too.”
