After over a year of delays and legal battles, Fulton County DA Fani Willis is finally set to testify under oath today before the Georgia Senate Special Committee on Investigations.
The committee has been investigating her handling of the now-dismissed election interference prosecution against President Donald Trump and others.
In August 2023, Fani Willis indicted President Trump and 18 co-defendants for daring to challenge the 2020 election.
Willis hit President Trump and the co-defendants with RICO and other charges.
Last year, after a fierce court battle, Fani Willis and her entire office were disqualified from prosecuting Trump in their lawfare RICO case.
The appeals court did not throw out the charges; however, Fani Willis and her office have “no authority to proceed.”
In November, the new Georgia prosecutor chosen to replace Fani Willis in her lawfare RICO case against President Trump dropped the case.
The Georgia Appeals Court disqualified Fani Willis because of an appearance of impropriety.
The Republican-led Senate Special Committee on Investigations has been probing allegations of misconduct in Willis’s office related to the case, including her hiring practices, office finances, and past romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Wade was paid more than $600,000 as special prosecutor while he was wining and dining Fani Willis and paying for lavish vacations for them.
Willis resisted subpoenas from the committee, arguing they lacked authority, but finally agreed to appear after lawmakers passed a 2025 law clarifying investigative committees’ subpoena powers, and a new subpoena was issued.
