James Comey reacted to the judge’s decision to dismiss the criminal case against him.
A federal judge on Monday dismissed the criminal cases against James Comey and Letitia James.
The case was dismissed without prejudice, which means it is only dismissed temporarily.
The White House confirmed that the Justice Department will immediately appeal.
Judge Cameron McGowan Currie, a Clinton appointee, ruled that US Attorney Lindsey Halligan’s appointment violated the Appointments Clause of the Constitution.
The judge also said Attorney General Pam Bondi’s attempt to ratify Halligan’s actions were “ineffective.”
Comey lashed out at President Trump and accused him of weaponizing the Justice Department to go after his political enemies.
This is after Comey targeted President Trump with illegal spying and then lied to Congress about his actions.
“A message has to be sent that the president of the United States cannot use the Department of Justice to target his political enemies,” Comey said in a video posted to Instagram.
I don’t care what your politics are, you have to see that as fundamentally un-American and a threat to the rule of law that keeps all of us free,” James Comey said.
Comey said President Trump will probably go after him again.
“I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again, and my attitude is going to be the same. I’m innocent, I am not afraid, and I believe in an independent federal judiciary,” he said.
