National Economic Council (NEC) Director Kevin Hassett was on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo to discuss how the economy will look for 2026. Hassett was very optimistic and explained that things were looking good with economic growth on the horizon.
“I want to get your take on what you’re expecting for the new year 2026 and the economy. What does that look like to you today?” Bartiromo asked.
“It’s gonna be an absolute blockbuster year ahead,” Hassett said.
“One of the signals you just mentioned, the jobs report that was double the expectation,” Hassett said.
“We’ve got GDP now for the last two quarters, almost four percent on average, maybe even a little bit above, and we are gonna have a little bit of a hiccup in the fourth quarter because of the silly shutdown,” Hassett said.
“My staff tells me that in September and October there have been more than 20 groundbreakings by major corporations to build new factories because President Trump said let’s expense those factories,” Hassett explained.
“Then we saw in September a big surge of construction workers because they’ve got to go build those factories,” Hassett continued.
“The factories are gonna be in place and then people are gonna start getting the jobs next to the machines, and everything else,” Hassett explained.
“It really, really is a very, very promising set of data,” Hassett said.
Hassett said that the left will criticize President Trump for a slow fourth quarter but explained that it was mainly the result of the Democrat government shutdown.
“We are gonna see a lot of wining from left-wing critics of the President about the fourth quarter because our estimate is that the shutdown cost more than we expected at the beginning, cause it had such a huge effect on this week ahead. So many people had to cancel their Thanksgiving plans because of the Democrat shutdown that we think the economic effect might be to cut economic growth about in half for the fourth quarter,” Hassett explained.
“The issue of affordability is front and center now. Going into next year there are somethings that are up in price,” Bartiromo said.
“What do you want to say about these bumps in certain prices and your efforts to rein in inflation?” Bartiromo asked.
“First thing we want to say, is that we hundred percent get it,” Hassett said.
“A typical ordinary family had to spend 20, 25 thousand dollars more every year just to cover the Biden inflation, and President Trump is closing the gap on that fast,” Hassett explained.
“We understand why people feel they like they haven’t caught up yet because of the huge whole that was dug by Joe Biden,” Hassett continued.
