California rapper Tay-K, born Taymor McIntyre, has been convicted of murder for the second time in Texas.
A jury in Bexar County found the 24-year-old guilty of the 2017 shooting of photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar, which happened while McIntyre was evading police after fleeing house arrest for the first murder.
McIntyre was originally sentenced to 55 years in prison over a 2016 home invasion that led to the murder of 21-year-old Ethan Walker. The rapper was 16 years old at the time of the first murder.
While on house arrest before the pending murder trial, McIntyre cut off his ankle monitor and went on the run.
In April 2017, McIntyre and two accomplices robbed Saldivar and took his camera equipment before fatally shooting him in a Chick-fil-A parking lot in San Antonio.
The same year, the fugitive went viral for his hit song “The Race,” which was recorded and released while he was still evading police. In the music video, McIntyre posed next to a wanted poster of himself.
The music video currently has over 251 million views on YouTube.
McIntyre avoided a capital murder conviction that would have carried a mandatory life sentence without parole but is now facing anywhere from five to 99 additional years in prison.
The sentencing phase of the trial is set to begin on April 15.
