France tried to bypass the war against Iran, but the conflict found it.
Today, a drone swarm attack by Iranian forces against the Iraqi region of Erbil has targeted not only US troops and military assets, but also British, Italian, and French troops and/or bases.
When it comes to the French grouping, the attack left a deadly mark, with a soldier killed in that attack against the Iraqi Kurdistan base.

A military base of the Peshmerga in which military forces from France are stationed in has been struck by at least 2 drones launched by Irans proxy forces, the PMF, in Iraq.
The base is located ≈40km south of Hawler (Erbil) near Mala Qara

“An attack killed a French soldier in Erbil in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region, President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday.
A member of the armed forces ‘died for France during an attack in the Erbil region of Iraq’, Macron posted on X, confirming the first French military death in the Middle East war that began late last month when Israel and the United States struck Iran.”
Arnaud Frion was a Chief Warrant Officer (equivalent to a Sergeant Major), and his death was first announced by President Emmanuel Macron on X.
“Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion of the 7th Battalion of Chasseurs Alpins from Varces died for France during an attack in the Erbil region of Iraq.
To his family, to his brothers in arms, I want to express all the affection and solidarity of the Nation.
Several of our soldiers have been wounded. France stands by their side and with their loved ones.
This attack against our forces engaged in the fight against Daesh since 2015 is unacceptable.
Their presence in Iraq is part of the strict framework of the fight against terrorism. The war in Iran cannot justify such attacks.”
