Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal sounded the alarm after a classified briefing on the escalating conflict with Iran, telling reporters he left the meeting “angry” and deeply concerned that the United States may be moving toward deploying American troops on the ground.
Blumenthal didn’t hold back in his post-briefing rant.
“I emerge from this briefing as dissatisfied and angry, frankly, as I have from any past briefing in my 15 years in the Senate,” he said.
“I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the cost of the war. My questions have been unanswered, and I will demand answers because the American people deserve to know.”
The Connecticut Democrat painted an apocalyptic picture, fretting over “the threat to American lives of potentially deploying our sons and daughters on the ground in Iran.”
He warned that the U.S. “seem[s] to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran to accomplish any of the potential objectives here.”
Adding fuel to the fearmongering fire, Blumenthal highlighted “the specter of active Russian aid to Iran, putting in danger American lives. Literally, Russia seems to be aiding our enemy, actively and intensively with intelligence and perhaps with other means. China also may be assisting Iran.”

Despite the senator’s warning, the White House says U.S. troops on the ground are not currently part of the plan.
During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that deploying U.S. ground forces into Iran is not part of the administration’s present strategy.
“They aren’t part of the plan for this operation at this time, but I will NEVER take away military options for the Commander-in-Chief. He wisely does not do the same for himself.”
Officials say the current campaign has focused primarily on airstrikes, naval operations, and targeting Iranian military infrastructure, with no American ground invasion underway.
The CIA is exploring a plan to arm Kurdish opposition fighters operating along the Iraq–Iran border in an effort to spark a popular uprising inside Iran and further destabilize the regime in Tehran.
The discussions, first reported by CNN, indicate that the Trump administration has been actively communicating with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq about providing military assistance as the conflict with Iran intensifies.
If implemented, the plan could open an entirely new front against the Iranian regime, one driven not just by air strikes and military pressure from outside the country, but by insurgent forces inside Iran itself.
