X says Beijing is disrupting Chinese-language users’ fees.
The social media platform X has accused the Government in Beijing of ‘flooding’ the feed of Chinese-language users with spam and pornography to drown out protests and dissent.
Chinese language users have been complaining that searches for Chinese-language posts on X yield results clogged with ‘spam and illicit ads’.
The Telegraph reported:
“Nikita Bier, the social media platform’s head of product, claimed the Chinese government was to blame for the rise of pornographic spam in response to complaints from users.
He said: ‘The Chinese government floods X search results with porn whenever there is political unrest – to prevent their citizens from finding out real-time information.
This has been a difficult problem to solve but we are aware [and] working on it’.”

X is banned in China since 2009 but remains available in Chinese-speaking regions such as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
