In a major scoop from investigative journalist Laura Loomer, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is reportedly gearing up to announce plans to stop funding for dog and cat experiments, driven by relentless pressure from the animal welfare and taxpayer watchdog organization White Coat Waste.
Loomer’s report cites unspecified government sources and refers to WCW’s latest investigation into NIH spending, which reveals no new grants have been awarded for dog and cat tests this fiscal year, a clear sign that change is underway.
This development would be a historic victory for animal welfare under the Trump administration if confirmed by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Sources tell me an official announcement from NIH about dog and cat testing is coming soon, during the second week of February.
If this news uncovered by White Coat Waste is confirmed by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., this would be another huge victory against wasteful and abusive animal testing for WCW and the Trump administration.
White Coat Waste has been the only group calling out the NIH and demanding that NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya and certified Trump-hater and Fauci-lover Dr. Nicole Kleinstreuer immediately end all funding for new and existing experiments that abuse dogs and cats. Meanwhile, PETA and other left-wing anti-Trump groups have let Nicole and Jay off the hook.
As I’ve reported with White Coat Waste since Tax Day of last year, Jay Bhattacharya and Nicole Kleinstreuer have continued to defend, support and fund Dr. Anthony Fauci’s labs and abusive tests on dogs, cats and other animals in labs in the US and foreign countries like China on US taxpayer dime.
In September, Loomer Unleashed confronted Bhattacharya outside of the NATCON conference about this. Jay lied again, and said he wasn’t funding the labs while privately defending NIH’s animal testing!
If White Coat Waste finally forced the NIH to stop issuing new grants for dog and cat abuse, this is a historic win!
I hope the Trump administration will announce that it’s ending ALL NIH funding for dog and cat labs, for both new and existing grants and require that these labs put the animals up for adoption and send them to Kindness Ranch instead of euthanizing them.
Following our coverage of WCW’s investigations into ongoing wasteful spending at these dog and cat labs, NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya exclusively confirmed to The Gateway Pundit in October that the agency is working on a new policy to stop the cruel and wasteful testing.
This confirmation came amid WCW’s exposés on renewed grants for barbaric tests like inducing heart failure in kittens and infesting beagles with ticks.
Despite repeated public promises to phase out such experiments, NIH has faced criticism for continuously extending funding for the bizarre Fauci-era projects.
The roots of this movement trace back to 2021, when The Gateway Pundit was the first to exclusively report WCW’s revelations about Fauci’s beagle lab in Tunisia, where taxpayer dollars funded torturous experiments in which dogs were eaten alive by parasite-infected flies.
That bombshell report sparked widespread outrage and set off a chain of reforms for animal protection that continues under the Trump administration today.
Notably, while WCW has aggressively held NIH accountable, the legacy leftist animal rights group PETA has let the agency, especially Fauci protege Nicole Kleinstreuer, off the hook, even defending her as she justified and made excuses for ongoing animal tests.
Last year, Gateway Pundit also reported how in a now-deleted X post from November 2021, PETA wrote, “Trump did nothing to stop animal experimentation.” This statement came after the first Trump Administration took historic steps to eliminate some of the government’s worst animal testing with the help of WCW.

PETA even tried to smear WCW in The New Yorker out of apparent jealousy over their real victories, stating, “White Coat Waste has young-male-testosterone energy, and it seems like they attack all the other groups for fundraising purposes.”
Goodman responded at the time by telling The Gateway Pundit:
“We’re proud of our hard-hitting campaigns and historic victories against government animal labs that made this issue high politics, front page news, and won the support of President Trump, his family, and his administration. We’ll never apologize for aggressively fighting to save animals from government abuse and to hold federal bureaucrats accountable for lying to taxpayers and wasting animals’ lives and taxpayers’ money. PETA hates us because they ain’t us.”
While this is undeniably a huge victory for animals, taxpayers, and White Coat Waste, Loomer’s post calls for the Trump administration to go further and end all NIH funding for existing dog and cat labs, prohibit new grants entirely, and require labs to adopt out the animals to sanctuaries like Kindness Ranch rather than euthanizing them.
With WCW’s track record of shutting down government animal labs, including primate, dog, and cat facilities over the years, this latest pressure could finally close the chapter on Fauci’s legacy of cruelty.
In a statement to The Gateway Pundit, WCW founder and president, Anthony Bellotti, said:
“White Coat Waste hounded the NIH — and we’re on the verge of victory.
In direct response to White Coat Waste — the watchdog that first uncovered Dr. Fauci’s beagle and kitten tests, and the group that exposed Nicole Kleinstreuer and NIH for continuing to fund them — our investigation shows NIH has apparently stopped doling out new grants for dog and cat labs. This is the exact demand White Coat Waste has made since day one of the Trump administration — and one the NIH repeatedly refused to commit to.
In June, NIH’s ‘animal testing czar’ Kleinstreuer told NPR there was ‘no intention’ to phase out such experiments ‘overnight’— because they’re ‘very important and often scientifically justified.’ Legacy groups in the animal rights establishment clapped like trained seals — even as NIH wasted millions of new taxpayer dollars for Fauci’s pet projects.
So we hit NIH with four million targeted ads and unleashed nearly a quarter million phone calls from our members demanding an immediate phase out. NIH blinked. Kleinstreuer caved. Taxpayers and pet owners are about to win— and White Coat Waste led the campaign.
Our investigations of Fauci’s BeagleGate scandal are what made animal testing a top GOP priority. And we’re grateful to President Trump for helping erase Fauci’s fingerprints from NIH labs. NIH is the world’s largest funder of animal testing and the world’s worst abuser of pets in labs — tracing its disgraceful lineage back to 1887. Under Trump, White Coat Waste is proud to be ending the era of federal feline and puppy abuse with our simple but seismic strategy: stop the money. Stop the madness.”
WCW remains the only animal advocacy organization to shut down any government primate lab in nearly a decade, any government dog testing labs in almost 20 years, and any government cat lab in the last 40 years.
This win isn’t just for animals and their defenders, though; it’s a win for hardworking Americans tired of their tax dollars funding needless cruelty.
