Don Lemon attempted to lecture a Christian pastor on the First Amendment after a mob of far-left agitators stormed a church in Minneapolis, disrupting a worship service and intimidating congregants.
The confrontation unfolded as Lemon confronted Pastor Jonathan Parnell, whose congregation had just endured harassment and interruption while gathered for prayer and worship.
Lemon attempted to lecture the pastor on the First Amendment, bizarrely invoking “freedom of speech” and “freedom of assembly” to justify the mob’s actions inside a church sanctuary.
When asked about the incident, Pastor Parnell did not mince words.
“This is unacceptable. It’s shameful,” he said. “It’s shameful to interrupt a public gathering of Christians in worship.”
As Lemon attempted to interrupt, the pastor made clear where his priorities lay.
“I have to take care of my flock, my family.”
That didn’t stop Lemon from pressing forward with a condescending civics lecture.
“Listen, we live in a… There’s a Constitution,” Lemon said, invoking the First Amendment to justify the agitators’ actions.
“The First Amendment to freedom of speech and freedom to assemble and protect.”
But Parnell calmly and firmly pushed back:
“We’re here to worship. We’re here to worship Jesus because that’s the hope of these cities. That’s the hope of the world is Jesus Christ.”
Rather than respect that boundary, Lemon pressed further, suggesting that Jesus would “understand” the agitators who shut down the service.
Don Lemon:
“Don’t you think Jesus would be understanding and love these folks?”
Pastor Parnell refused to play along with the media spin.
“We’re about spreading the love of Jesus,” he said.
“I have to take care of my church and my family, so I ask that you would also leave this building.”
