Three inmates, including a murder suspect, escaped from the DeKalb County Jail in Georgia on Monday morning, and officials have warned that they are “dangerous” and could be armed.
The escapees have been identified by Stevenson Charles, 24, Yusuf Minor, 31, and Naod Yohannes, 25.
Charles was serving a life sentence and is charged with murder and armed robbery.
“The U.S. Marshals Service says Charles has committed a number of serious crimes. He is serving a life sentence. They said that he has been charged with, or convicted of, murder, aggravated assault, weapons violations, sodomy on a person less than ten years old, kidnapping, carjacking, armed robbery, and probation violations,” Atlanta News First reports.
Charles reportedly met some of his victims through the gay dating website, Grindr.
Yohannes is serving time for assault, arson, and unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution.
Minor is charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
U.S. Marshals believe that they escaped on Sunday evening or early Monday before jail officials discovered they were missing during a “routine security check,” the DeKalb Sheriff’s office said.
Following the escape, the jail’s entrance and exit were sealed, and the manhunt is ongoing.
Per the Daily Mail:
Georgia police say the inmates are ‘dangerous’, may be armed, and urge the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid them.
The county jail’s entrance and exit were closed off and authorities have surrounded the perimeter of the building.
‘We take this breach very seriously and are working diligently to ensure these individuals are safely returned to custody as quickly as possible,’ Sheriff Melody M. Maddox said.
The sheriff’s office, DeKalb Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service are assisting in the search.
This is a developing story.
