Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin absolutely ERUPTED Thursday night, calling out socialist Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for torpedoing a bipartisan bill that would expand critical treatment options for children battling cancer and rare diseases.
Mullin, visibly enraged, accused Sanders of using dying children as political leverage, charging that the Vermont socialist was willing to sacrifice kids’ lives to advance his ideological agenda.
The Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act (H.R. 1262) is a bipartisan federal bill designed to accelerate the development of treatments for rare pediatric diseases and childhood cancers.
Renamed in late 2025 to honor Mikaela Naylon, a 16-year-old advocate who died from osteosarcoma, the legislation seeks to provide children with access to the same advanced medical research and drug combinations available to adults.
“Last night, Bernie Sanders blocked our bipartisan bill to give kids fighting cancer more treatment options. This is a new low, even for “The Grinch,” Mullin wrote on Facebook.
“Our bill is called the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act, named after a brave 16-year-old girl who advocated for this legislation while fighting her own battle with cancer until the end. We have to deliver this legislation— and I won’t back down.”
According to Mullin, Sanders deliberately halted the bill to extract unrelated political concessions, refusing to allow it to move forward through normal procedures.
Mark Mullayne:
You know, Mr. President, everything that the Senator from Vermont just wrote about was why I think he supported affordable health care, a.k.a. Obamacare. I thought it was supposed to fix all this stuff that he’s written about, and we’ve figured out it hasn’t. It’s wrecked the system. It’s unaffordable for the American people. Yet it was the Democrats that sold us—or sold the American people—on it. Not us. Not Republicans. They sold the American people on it. It’s been disastrous. And so now he wants to hold kids that are dying of rare diseases and pediatric cancer—wants to hold them hostage—to now try to push his agenda further and not go through the committee of jurisdiction, but hold—I’m talking about kids—hostage. The kids.
Everything the Senator from Vermont just talked about was political. I’m talking about lives. I’m talking about giving kids a chance to live an extra day or a lifetime. That’s what I’m talking about. This has nothing to do with politics. Nothing. Nothing I’m talking about has to do with politics.
This has to do with kids. Yet my Senator from Vermont wants to make it about politics. This time of the year, at Christmas, we talk about Grinches all the time, right? They go in and they steal the kids’ gifts. But at the end of the show, their hearts grow bigger and they give the gifts back. They allow kids to be excited about Christmas morning.
What’s happening right here in front of us: the Grinch is still in kids’ lives, and they’re still stealing hope from the families—hope from the families that might have an opportunity just to try—just for a political agenda.
I hope to God that every single family that’s going through this will hold the Senator from Vermont accountable, and the state of Vermont will hold him accountable too, because he’s playing with kids’ lives. He’s literally killing kids in front of us because of his political movement. It is ridiculous. Therefore, I object.
