

Police are now investigating a possible link between the Brown University shooting in Rhode Island and the murder of an MIT professor approximately 50 miles away in Brookline, Massachusetts.
An MIT professor was fatally shot in his Brookline home on Monday night.
47-year-old Nuno Loureiro, a nuclear science and engineering professor, was shot multiple times, according to police.
Loureiro was transported to a Boston hospital and died Tuesday morning.
A neighbor told CBS News that they heard three loud bangs on Monday night. A suspect was not immediately taken into custody.
Loureiro’s murder came just two days after a gunman opened fire on students at Brown University.
Two people were killed and nine others critically injured in a shooting at Brown University.
On Thursday, CBS reported that the authorities know the identity of the ‘person of interest’ connected to the Brown University shooting.
It is also being reported that police are investigating possible links between the two fatal shootings.

Prior, multiple sources familiar with the investigation at Brown University told CBS News on Thursday that a person of interest has been identified in the deadly mass shooting.
Law enforcement has identified a person, and a search for that individual is underway, the sources said.
