WATCH: DSA New Hampshire Kicks Off Meeting by Calling Thanksgiving a “DAY OF MOURNING” for Native Americans
Only on the modern American left can you get a Zoom meeting where a state legislator compares Israel to Nazis, capitalism to Hitler, and a communist boot camp to a heart-warming retreat–and everyone nods along like this is normal civic engagement in New Hampshire.
Hosted by New Hampshire Peace Action and co-sponsored by basically every far-left group north of Boston, the event was billed as a serious discussion with State Rep. Ellen Read about her Gaza flotilla adventure.
What it delivered instead was an unintentional comedy special about how far off the rails the progressive movement has gone.
The evening opened with a land acknowledgment, of course.
Before anyone said the word “Gaza,” the host reminded everyone they were on the “traditional ancestral homelands of the Abenaki, Wabanaki, and Penobscot peoples,” then immediately pivoted to calling Thanksgiving a “day of mourning” and framing the entire event as a moral lecture from the enlightened to the benighted.
Nothing says “grassroots New Hampshire” like opening a Zoom call by denouncing Thanksgiving.
Then came the hero’s introduction: Read was praised as the first American elected official to sail with a flotilla trying to “break Israel’s illegal blockade,” cheered by groups like Jewish Voice for Peace, Southern NH Indivisible, Veterans for Peace, and an alphabet soup of anti-Israel NGOs.
The host carefully noted that Read “did not make it to Gaza” and was not apprehended by Israel because she got sick and had to leave the boat–but, don’t worry, she was still “part of the whole thing.”
In other words: she didn’t actually do the thing, but she definitely identifies as someone who did the thing.
Read then launched into a long monologue about watching Gaza videos online and deciding this is “the first genocide we are having live-streamed to each individual.”
She declared that Israel has been committing “ongoing genocide” for “77 years,” and that Palestinians have been facing genocide “dating back before Gaza” with “multiple massacres” and obvious “intent.”
Apparently the UN definition of genocide now lives wherever Ellen Read’s feelings happen to be that evening.
To fix this, Read proudly explained that she introduced a “genocide bill” in New Hampshire to force high schools to teach not just the Holocaust, but also the “genocide against the Palestinian people” alongside Native American suffering and other historical atrocities.
The only real opposition, she admitted, came from people who support Israel. Translation: anyone who doubts her “Israel = Nazis” comparison is automatically on the side of genocide.
But the real comedy gold came when she described her flotilla training in Sicily.
They stayed in a monastery “donated by the padre,” living communally, rotating chores, and constantly checking on each other’s emotional needs.
Read literally filmed it and told a friend, “this is like communism at work,” and meant it as a compliment.
Most Americans hear “communism at work” and think gulags and bread lines; this crowd hears it and thinks, “team-building retreat.”
From there, the training turned into a kind of low-budget Hollywood boot camp.
Volunteers practiced “non-violent communication,” then graduated to having fake IDF soldiers tie their hands, hood them, scream insults, spray them with water, and even stage mock executions of teammates.
Read described sitting on her knees for 45 minutes, hooded, thinking about Abu Ghraib and American evil.
Only in a modern Democrat Party Zoom can a state rep happily recount paying to be fake-kidnapped so she can feel more authentic in her anti-Israel activism.
The ideology behind it all was even more revealing.
When asked why “fascism is on the rise everywhere,” Read gave the kind of answer you expect from a college Marxism seminar, not a statehouse: “capitalism always leads itself into fascism,” she said; it is “the end result of late-stage capitalism,” and “that’s exactly how Hitler came to power.”
So in her telling, free markets lead to Auschwitz, but a communist monastery in Sicily is just mutual aid with better PR.
Meanwhile, the supposedly oppressed Americans leading this “resistance” are hardly powerless.
Read bragged that Israel has “socialized medicine,” nearly free college, and generous welfare – and then asked why the U.S. dares to send any military aid instead of copying Israel’s welfare state.
She managed to turn an attack on Israel into an argument for more European-style socialism at home. The DNC would be proud.
By the end, attendees were encouraged to apply for future flotillas, share more Gaza videos, and build a New Hampshire “contingent” to help break Israel’s blockade.
The local left treated a sitting state representative sailing with an organization that openly boasts about “challenging” an allied nation’s military as if she’d just completed a charity 5K.
If you ever needed proof that today’s Democrats live in an alternate universe–where Israel is Nazi Germany, communism is a group hug, capitalism is fascism, and flotilla cosplay is “peace action”–this one Zoom call from New Hampshire delivers it in 90 straight minutes of unintentional satire.
Donald Trump talks about draining the swamp. Nights like this remind you how deep the swamp really is.
