The Michigan Radical Left’s Playbook: From Lawfare to Celebrating Political Assassination
An Op-Ed by Kevin Kijewski
Escalation to Dangerous Rhetoric
But when lawfare fails to crush conservatives, the radical left doesn’t stop.
They escalate to inflammatory rhetoric that poisons public discourse and incites violence.
We’ve seen it time and again – from the demonization of President Trump as a “threat to democracy” to the relentless smears against anyone who challenges the radical left agenda.
This dangerous language doesn’t just divide; it dehumanizes, paving the way for tragedy.
And now, in the wake of the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk – savagely shot in the neck while speaking in Utah – we’re witnessing the grotesque fruits of this dangerous rhetoric.
Kirk, a fearless voice for young conservatives through Turning Point USA, was gunned down in what Utah Governor Spencer Cox and President Trump rightly called a “political assassination.”
Yet instead of universal condemnation, prominent Michigan liberals are downplaying, justifying, or even celebrating his murder. This isn’t just distasteful; it’s a direct assault on our republic’s foundations and on all Americans.
Let’s be clear: Charlie Kirk wasn’t some fringe figure. He was a close ally of President Trump, a champion of free speech on college campuses, and a thorn in the side of the left’s cultural warriors.
His killing should unite all Americans in horror, regardless of politics. But in Michigan, where extreme liberal elites hold sway in academia, the judiciary, and the legislature, the response has been chilling.
Judge Horowitz: Radical Left Apologist Tied to Nessel

Take Oak Park District Court Judge Jaimie Powell Horowitz of the 45th District Court in Oakland County, who took to social media mere hours after the news broke, to suggest Kirk’s “hateful rhetoric” made him complicit in his own demise.
As I highlighted on my X account, Judge Horowitz posted “talk about dying for your beliefs,” followed by a full quotation from Kirk regarding gun violence.
The common sense and logical inference is that Judge Horowitz believes Charlie Kirk is responsible for his own death. She thinks she’s being slick, but she’s really just being disgusting. Shame on her.
This post has sparked widespread backlash, with conservatives and free speech advocates calling for her resignation or disciplinary action from the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission.
As a sitting judge, her words carry weight, yet she chose to mock a murdered man’s beliefs rather than condemn his murder.
This is the same Judge Horowitz who was once Dana Nessel’s intern nearly 20 years ago and later swore her into office as Michigan Attorney General in a ceremonial event that underscored their long-standing professional relationship.
Nessel even rewarded Horowitz by appointing her a Special Assistant Attorney General to prosecute high-profile cases. These deep, incestuous ties within Michigan’s liberal power structure reveal how partisan alliances infect our judiciary, turning courts into echo chambers for extreme liberal ideology rather than bastions of impartial justice.

As a judge sworn to impartiality, Horowitz’s words aren’t just biased – they’re an abdication of her duty to uphold justice and a violation of the Michigan Code of Judicial Conduct that demands judges avoid even the appearance of impropriety.
How can any Michigander trust our courts when a sitting judge acts as an apologist for political murder, potentially influencing cases before her?
Professor Davis: Rationalizing Murder in Academia
Then there’s University of Michigan Professor Charles H.F. Davis, a taxpayer-funded educator, who defended Kirk’s assassination by stating that violence “is a solution to violent rhetoric spewed by empowered people.”
In a post that reeks of academic arrogance, he argued that Kirk’s advocacy for conservative values somehow justified the violence against him.
This, from a professor at one of Michigan’s premier public institutions, where students should be learning critical thinking as championed by Kirk during his life, not how to rationalize murder as promoted by the radical left.
Davis’s comments aren’t isolated; they reflect a broader rot in higher education, where left-wing indoctrination at all costs trumps civility.
As Michigan’s next Attorney General, I’ll use every tool at my disposal – including investigations into university funding and free speech audits – to hold these institutions accountable. Michigan taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for professors who celebrate the killing of fellow Americans.
Teacher Worthing: Comparing Kirk to Hitler
Adding to this disgrace is Flint teacher Eva Worthing, who teaches math at Academy West Alternative Education and is a recent Democrat elected official who served on the Flint city council before resigning amid a recall effort over racially insensitive comments.
In a Facebook post, Worthing callously wrote about Kirk’s murder: “He died exactly how he wanted. He said gun deaths were worth our 2nd amendment rights. Who cares if he was a husband and father? Hitler was a husband. Did you mourn his death?”
These sentiments are eerily similar to those words of Judge Horowitz, but not surprising since members of the extreme left use the same radical playbook.
Comparing a conservative activist to Hitler and dismissing his humanity as a family man is beyond reprehensible – it’s the kind of dehumanizing rhetoric that fuels more violence.
As an educator shaping young minds in Flint, her words poison the well of civility. As Michigan’s next Attorney General, I’ll ensure taxpayer-funded teachers like Worthing face scrutiny for promoting hate under the guise of free speech.
The Broader Network of Apologists
These radical left apologists aren’t fringe; they’re embedded in Michigan’s power structures. It goes all the way to the very top with Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Her tepid statement condemning violence rings hollow given her administration’s history of inflammatory attacks on conservatives.
Remember when Whitmer accused President Trump of inciting domestic terrorism during a 2020 appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press? In the same appearance, a small sign bearing the numbers “8645” was intentionally made visible behind her.
The number is code for a very dangerous anti-Trump message combining “86,” a reference to getting rid of or killing something off, with “45,” a reference to Trump’s presidential number for the first term.
We all know and remember what happened in the years afterwards – President Trump was almost assassinated not once, but twice.

If Whitmer is supposed to set the example for other government employees in the state with her feigned leadership, it is no surprise that other liberal extremists feel empowered to do similar or worse things within Michigan’s government institutions.
This is the same crowd that cheers when conservative voices are censored on social media or deplatformed from campuses. If lawfare doesn’t silence freedom-loving Americans, they’ll quietly cheer when bullets do.
A Call to Action: Reclaiming Michigan and America
Michiganders deserve better. Our state, once a beacon of Midwestern values, is being dragged into the abyss by the radical left, who prioritize power over people.
This problem isn’t contained to Michigan – it’s a national epidemic, with similar lawfare tactics and celebrations of violence cropping up in states like New York, California, and Georgia, where conservative voices are routinely targeted by partisan prosecutors and echoed by radical academics and judges.
As a Republican candidate for Michigan Attorney General and an attorney committed to upholding the rule of law, I’ve spent the last few years on the front lines defending Michiganders against the weaponization of our justice system by the radical left.
When Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel launched her partisan crusade against the 2020 alternate electors – citizens who were simply exercising their constitutional duties – I stepped up to represent several of them in court.
These were everyday citizens targeted not for crimes but for daring to question an election riddled with irregularities.

Nessel’s office, backed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration, poured taxpayer dollars into this sham criminal prosecution, all while ignoring real threats to public safety like rising violent crime in Detroit and Lansing.
Since taking office, Nessel has ballooned the department’s employee count by almost 50%, hiring more bureaucrats to pursue political vendettas instead of protecting Michiganders.
I fought tooth and nail to expose this as pure lawfare: the abuse of legal processes to silence political opponents. And we won key battles, with criminal charges dismissed because the facts simply didn’t support the liberal hysteria.
As Michigan’s next Attorney General, I’ll fight back – not with rhetoric, but with concrete action.
I’ll defend free speech by cracking down on threats and incitement, through robust investigations and prosecutions that uphold the First Amendment while protecting public safety.
I’ll issue AG opinions clarifying that misconduct by government officials detailed here warrants removal and referral to disciplinary boards.
I’ll partner with federal authorities to investigate any Michigan ties to Kirk’s killer, ensuring no stone is unturned and that justice is served swiftly.
And I’ll restore faith in our institutions by reprioritizing resources toward real crimes: the carjackings plaguing cities like Detroit, Saginaw, or Flint; the fentanyl flooding across our borders and destroying families; and the election irregularities like non-U.S. citizens voting that continue to erode public trust in our democratic processes.
I’ll audit wasteful spending in the Attorney General’s office, trimming the bloated bureaucracy Nessel expanded, and redirect employees to support local law enforcement in combating urban violence rather than executing on political vendettas.
Charlie Kirk’s assassination is a wake-up call. The radical left’s dangerous game – from lawfare to celebrating political murder – threatens us all, not just in Michigan but across America.
They left the battlefield of ideas long ago and assassinated Kirk to stop his influence in fostering real debate and conversation. It’s time to reject the radical left’s toxicity and reclaim Michigan and America for the majority.
Together, we can build a safer, freer Michigan – one that sets an example for the nation. Let’s put Michigan and America first.
