Congress’s slashing of federal funding has resulted in one of the most useless agencies shutting down operations.
The far-left Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced in a press release on Friday that they were going to begin the process of closing down for good, despite a supposed outcry from millions of Americans.
The organization cited the shutdown due to the passage of the rescissions package last month and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill.
“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison said. “CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”
“Public media has been one of the most trusted institutions in American life, providing educational opportunity, emergency alerts, civil discourse, and cultural connection to every corner of the country,” she added. “We are deeply grateful to our partners across the system for their resilience, leadership, and unwavering dedication to serving the American people.”
As TGP readers know, House Republicans passed a sweeping $9 billion rescissions package back on July 18 that delivers a knockout punch to globalist pet projects and leftist propaganda machines like NPR and PBS. The Senate later passed the measure with only two Republicans voting no.
$1.1 billion was cut from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Trump signed the bill into law on July 24.
According to the release, the CPB told its employees that the majority of staff positions would end at the close of the fiscal year, which is on September 30, 2025.
A ‘small’ transition team would then remain through January 2026 to ensure a proper closing of operations.
Axios reports that this decision will seriously impact local member stations of PBS and NPR that rely on federal dollars to survive.
PBS and NPR receive most of their funding from private sources.
