Karmelo Anthony, the teenager charged in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, will be tried as an adult in Texas.
The incident took place last month during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
According to police, Anthony stabbed Metcalf following a dispute about where he was sitting.

The case is being handled by the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, just north of Dallas.
Anthony has been charged with first-degree murder and will face trial as an adult. This is because Texas allows minors aged 16 or 17 to be tried as adults for certain crimes.
If convicted, Anthony could face life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. However, he will not be eligible for the death penalty.
“The Supreme Court has said not only can you not seek the death penalty against someone who committed a crime when they’re 17, you can’t even get them life without parole,” said Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis.
“That would not be something we could do even if we wanted to,” he continued.
Anthony’s bond was originally set at $1 million, but a judge later reduced it to $250,000. He is currently under house arrest at his parents’ home.
His family have since raised over $525,000 on GiveSendGo, purchased a new Cadillac, and moved into a $900,000 home.
Despite his heinous crime, it recently emerged that Anthony was allowed to graduate high school.
The victim’s father, Jeff Metcalf, said of an online effort to give Austin an honorary diploma would not bring his son back.
“It’s a nice gesture, but in the long run, my son doesn’t get a diploma,” he explained. “So, there’s part of me that says maybe Mr. Anthony shouldn’t get one either.”
