Some people change the world without saying much. Hong Wei Liao is one of them. She lives in Toronto, where she leads a quiet but powerful life. She helps others, especially women and young people, find their voice and path.
She doesn’t look for fame. She doesn’t speak loudly. But when she talks, you listen.
“I don’t need to be known,” she said. “I just want to be useful.”
A Life of Effort and Meaning
Liao was born in Hunan, China. She later moved to Canada, where she raised her family and built her career. She earned a master’s degree and became a mother of five. Her children are now grown and exploring their own journeys in business, education, and the arts.
But Liao doesn’t focus on status. She focuses on service.
“A good life is one that helps other lives,” she told me.
Botrich and Building Legacy
Operating from her Toronto headquarters, Liao leads the Botrich Family Wealth Heritage and Development Center. The group supports wealthy families who want to leave a meaningful legacy.
But it’s not just about money. Liao teaches her clients to think about health, family, and community. The group holds workshops and private events. Topics include legal planning, wellness, and leadership.
“We all leave something behind,” she said. “The question is, what kind of mark do you want to leave?”
Mentoring the Next Generation
A big part of Liao’s life is mentoring youth. Through her work with the Canada Youth Funding Association (CYFA), she has helped many students attend top universities, including Ivy League schools and NYU.
She supports events like the Global Kids Icon Grand Finals, which gives kids a chance to perform and grow. She also helps raise money for education through charity galas.
“Every young person has a spark,” she said. “Our job is to protect it until it becomes a fire.”
Liao believes young people need more than school. They need mentors, encouragement, and chances to lead.
Helping Women Grow Strong
Liao also spends time helping women find their strength. She is the Life Honorary Chair of the North America United Global Women’s Association and has won the Global Women of Excellence Award twice.
She supports women-focused events in Vancouver and Toronto, including one called “Wise Women, Creating Brilliance Together.”
She sees leadership as a shared space.
“We are not here to compete,” she said. “We are here to complete each other.”
Quiet Honors, Real Impact
Liao has received many awards. These include the King Charles III Coronation Medal, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and recognition from UNICEF for her support of child protection and education programs.
But she doesn’t talk much about awards.
“Recognition is nice,” she said. “But real work is done when no one is looking.”
She helps support programs that give children better opportunities to grow and thrive. She believes real change is slow and steady. Not flashy. Not overnight.
Dance, Culture, and Expression
Liao also supports art. For 17 years, she has sponsored the Vancouver Beauty Dance World gala. The event features Chinese dance, jazz, K-pop, and more. She sees the arts as a way for kids to grow their confidence and find a voice.
“Art is more than performance,” she told me. “It’s a way to learn who you are.”
She believes that dance and music can bring communities together. It’s another part of her mission to support growth from the inside out.
Leadership Without Ego
Liao has also been named a WORLD MADAM Honorary Champion and Global Peace Ambassador. This honor recognizes her work in women’s leadership and international peacebuilding.
Still, she stays grounded.
“Titles don’t define us,” she said. “What we do each day, that’s who we are.”
She lives this belief through her daily work, mentorships, and acts of service. She doesn’t post much on social media. She isn’t chasing followers. She’s building something real.
The Power of Stillness
In a world that moves fast, Liao stands out because she doesn’t rush. She listens. She thinks deeply. She works slowly but with great care.
Her style is not loud. But it is lasting.
“When you move with purpose, you don’t have to move fast,” she said.
And maybe that’s the point. Liao teaches us that real power often moves quietly. It listens more than it speaks. It builds, brick by brick, a life that helps others rise.
Final Note
From Toronto to the world, Hong Wei Liao continues her steady work—mentoring, building, and supporting the next generation. Her story isn’t one of sudden fame. It’s a story of focus, kindness, and staying true to your values. And in today’s noisy world, that might be the most powerful story of all.
