The far-left White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), a leftist members-only club that oversees the White House press room and supposedly “exists to promote excellence in journalism,” has come to the defense of its leftist partner, the Associated Press, in a standoff with the White House.
This comes after the AP was apparently barred from accessing a press conference with President Trump and the Indian Prime Minister Thursday.
The group’s president alleged in a statement that “the White House is seeking to curtail the press freedoms enshrined in our Constitution.” It should be noted that the president of the WHCA is Eugene Daniels, a liberal reporter for Politico. And notably, Politico has come under fire from the Trump Administration and Department of Government Efficiency over recently discovered USAID payments to the far-left news organization.
Politico took tens of millions from USAID in the past several years for their operation.
In the past, they’ve had no problem with a conservative reporter being censored by the Biden Regime or bullied by their members in the White House, but now that a liberal regime media member is facing an inconvenience, they’re up in arms.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, the far-left, dishonest Associated Press was booted from the Oval Office earlier this week after they refused to acknowledge President Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.” Even Google and Apple have acknowledged the name change.
The Trump administration took a stand against their refusal to be truthful and barred an AP reporter from covering Elon Musk’s visit to the White House.
The AP, of course, cried foul over the White House’s decision to exclude them from the Oval Office, an area that many other reporters, including this author, have been unable to access due to a lack of space and restrictions placed by the leftist White House Correspondents’ Association. If the AP deserves to access the room, then The Gateway Pundit, One America News Network, and others with a different viewpoint should have access.
Trump White House Blocks Far-Left Associated Press from Oval Office for Defying His Executive Order Renaming Gulf as ‘Gulf of America’
President Trump not only changed the name of this vast body of water but also declared February 9, 2025, as the inaugural “Gulf of America Day.”
Again, on Thursday, another Associated Press reporter was denied access to the Oval Office while President Trump signed a memorandum imposing reciprocal tariffs on countries that tax the United States.
Now, the WHCA President Eugene Daniels has decried the Trump Administration’s decision, calling it “a textbook violation of not only the First Amendment, but the president’s own executive order on freedom of speech and ending federal censorship.” The AP can still exercise their First Amendment rights, access the White House grounds, and report the news, but they’ve lost the privilege of accessing certain events.
As noted by former OANN White House correspondent and current Turning Point White House correspondent Monica Paige,
Where was the WHCA outrage when Karine Jean-Pierre refused to call on reporters beyond the fourth row of seats?
What about when Biden was given a list of reporters to call on in advance at his pressers?
Or what about when different reporters got banned from the briefing room?
Oh wait, it’s only when it happens to the mainstream media that the WHCA suddenly cares.

White House Correspondents’ Association President Eugene Daniels released the following statement Thursday:
“The White House’s decision to bar Associated Press reporters from today’s press conference with President Trump and Prime Minister Modi is outrageous and a deeply disappointing escalation of an already unacceptable situation. Let me be clear: the White House is seeking to curtail the press freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, and has admitted publicly they are restricting access to events to punish a news outlet for not advancing the government’s preferred language.
“Free speech and a free press are among the defining values of American democracy and must be preserved and protected. Our pool system is critical to ensure all of our members can cover the presidency, and prohibiting journalists from access because of their editorial decisions is viewpoint discrimination.
“The attempted government censorship of a free press risks a chilling effect on journalists doing their job without fear or favor on behalf of the American people.
“This is a textbook violation of not only the First Amendment, but the president’s own executive order on freedom of speech and ending federal censorship. We again call on the White House to immediately reverse course and restore access to AP journalists.”
-Eugene Daniels, White House Correspondents’ Association President
