The ‘most powerful person in Europe’, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, celebrated her birthday yesterday (15) working hard to solve – in her own way – the energy quagmire that is afflicting all of Europe right now.
She was in Abu Dhabi, UAE, at a trilateral summit along with her host Sultan al-Jaber and her long-time ally Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
But it was not all business, as PM Rama presented a gift of a luxurious scarf to Meloni and serenaded her in celebration her 48th birthday.
Reuters reported:
“Rama, who is much taller than Meloni, went down on one knee to hand over the present and sang “tanti auguri” (happy birthday) as the two leaders attended the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
The lightweight scarf was the work of an Italian designer who had relocated to Albania, Rama explained to Meloni.
The two leaders have a good working relationship despite contrasting political beliefs – Meloni leads the right-wing Brothers of Italy while Rama heads Albania’s Socialist Party.”

Meloni and Rama have a partnership that has already yielded a bold plan to divert some of the illegals Italy picks up at sea to triage centers in Albania.
Now, at yesterday’s summit, Italy, Albania and the United Arab Emirates agreed to a deal worth at least 1 billion euros to build subsea energy lines across the Adriatic.

Associated Press reported:
“Italy, Albania and the United Arab Emirates signed a three-way clean energy cooperation deal Wednesday that calls for the Gulf country’s expertise to be put to use in Albania to produce solar, wind and other renewable energy, some of which would then be transferred to Italy via an underwater cable.
Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni traveled to Abu Dhabi to announce the deal, which further cements Italy’s partnership with Albania beyond the migration deal that saw Italy build two migrant detention centers in the Balkan country to process the asylum requests of some migrants.”
