Johnson was confident on Friday morning ahead of the vote.
“I don’t make deals with anyone. There’s no quid pro quo here. I don’t do anything in exchange for a vote other than commit to make this institution work as effectively and efficiently as possible,” Johnson said to reporters ahead of the vote.

President Trump endorsed Johnson earlier this week and wished him luck on Friday.
“Good luck today for Speaker Mike Johnson, a fine man of great ability, who is very close to having 100% support. A win for Mike today will be a big win for the Republican Party, and yet another acknowledgment of our 129 year most consequential Presidential Election!! – A BIG AFFIRMATION, INDEED. MAGA!” Trump said on Truth Social on Friday morning.
The 118th Congress officially ended on Friday.
The House Speaker vote is coming up next.
