In the latest tragedy that underscores the ineffectiveness of strict gun control laws, a mother and her 12-year-old daughter were among six people wounded during a horrifying shooting in New York City’s Bronx borough.
The incident took place in a convenience store, where the intended targets of the attack used the victims as human shields.
Despite the state’s sweeping firearm restrictions, criminals continue to wreak havoc, leaving residents questioning the promises of safety under Governor Kathy Hochul’s progressive policies.
Surveillance footage from the scene reveals the chaotic moments when two gunmen opened fire on rivals outside G&W Grocery on White Plains Road near East 211th Street in the Gunhill neighborhood, according to the New York Post.
As bullets flew, the intended targets ran into the store, recklessly dragging innocent shoppers into the line of fire.
The mother was shot in the stomach while shielding her child, who was hit in the leg, Interim Chief of Department John Chell revealed during a press briefing.
“The mother and daughter were up against the counter when the intended targets came in and bumped into them. They then turn the mother around as they’re being shot at,” said Chell.
Miraculously, all victims are reported to be in stable condition.
This tragic event occurred in New York City, ranked second for gun control laws.
Governor Hochul recently touted her administration’s strict new restrictions on firearm sales and carry permits as essential measures to curb gun violence. However, as the Bronx shooting illustrates, these laws have done little to disarm criminals who blatantly disregard them.
Critics of these policies argue that they strip law-abiding citizens of their right to self-defense while leaving dangerous offenders emboldened. New York’s “gun-free zones” have effectively become safe havens for those willing to flout the law, creating an environment where the innocent are defenseless and the guilty run rampant.
